Power Lines Spark Fire At Westchester Intersection

An electrical issue with power lines caused a blaze at a Northern Westchester intersection. 

The blaze happened at the intersection of Somerstown Road and Vails Lane in New Castle.

The incident happened on Tuesday, May 21 around 4:30 p.m., when grass was reported to be on fire below power lines at the intersection of Somerstown Road and Vails Lane in New Castle, according to the Millwood Fire Department. 

Arriving fire crews soon determined the blaze had been sparked by an electrical issue and began keeping the flames controlled until Con Edison crews could take a look at the problem. 

After Con Edison crews deemed it safe for firefighters to proceed with putting out the blaze, the flames were soon extinguished, the department said.
